Hello friends, bloggers, followers and crafty peeps

Well, here we are again, another Wednesday is upon us, and the weeks are now free falling into you know what…

A couple of times this past week, I’ve attempted to start my Christmas cards, but I just can’t seem to get myself going.  What is wrong with me?  I sit at the desk and stare for a while, I even move things about a bit then sort something else out – it’s all procrastination basically.  Why?  Part of me thinks it’s because I need a kick up the bum, another part of me doesn’t want to ‘fail’ and make bad cards – now how crazy does that sound.   I am my own worst enemy.

Here is the desk anyway:

Here is the top of my printer where I've piled up some papers I got from the My Craft Studio warehouse which is basically down the road from me.  I always like to get some plain colours when down there filling my box for £5.  You may not see it but I've had to sort them out into colours again.  I just cannot help myself.

I was asked a couple of times last week what the green collapsible thing next to the paper was – I also have a blue one which is currently housing my Promarkers (until I find a better alternative solution).  They are from IKEA and you got three in a set.  Someone very kindly gave me these a while ago when I went to an evening craft class.  They were from the children’s area, but I’ve never seen them myself so I assume they are an older line.  While they are collapsible – you’ll be lucky if you can get them to stay collapsed, unless you put a copy of ‘War and Peace’ on top of them.  I use the green one as bin for my bits of table top waste.

This is the first time in ages (or ever) that I’ve managed a decent ‘aerial’ shot!  This is the left /centre of the desk.  While doing my ‘procrastinating’ earlier, I coloured up one of my Tiddly Ink digis – it’s long, long overdue since the last time I coloured anything let alone a digi.  I really tried hard to do some light and dark shading of the dress and ended up using my pencils as I wasn’t satisfied with the look my alcohol pens were giving me.  The orange paper is also a paper from Tiddly Inks, which I put back through the printer to print a spiders web on – also a Tiddly Ink.

There are so many challenges out there with the Halloween theme, so I thought I might see if I can’t join in.  I know the design team at Tiddly Inks is awesome, and I’ll never come up to their standards, but you don’t get anywhere if you don’t at least try!  The die is from Spellbinders labels 15.

The card on the right of the desk is made using an image from My Craft Studio CD and some die-cut leaves from Paper Flower Expert.

Nothing much here apart from some kitchen roll centres.  I’ve been saving – cos, boy – do we get through kitchen roll…

I’m sure I saw something they’d be useful for – but I can’t remember, so I’m saving them anyway in case I do…

That’s your lot.  I’m sure many will appreciate my unusually short post.

If you want to know why I am showing you my desk while explaining what’s on it – pop over to our weekly host, the fabulous Julia, and she’ll explain all about WOYWW.  That stands for What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday by the way.  It does exactly what it says on the tin…

Before you go though, I’ll just let you leave me a little comment.  I’m kind like that ((winks)) ;0)

Happy desk hopping
Paula x x x

  6. Happy WOYWW. Thanks for your visit and I will take a piccy of my stamp later when it it is light enough. Lovely colouring on the dress. I am a fan of Tiddly Inks too. Ali x #54

  7. Hi Paula - thanks for telling me about the pic on my blog - I have sorted it and now it works - I hope!! Hugx Jo

  8. Nothing wrong with colour sorting your paper. Makes huge amounts of sense, not to mention making them great to look at! I think it's like having a colour chart for your paints or ink.

Oh, and the viking boat on my blog? It's supposed to be a gondola. Guess I need to do some more work on it!

    Happy WOYWW.
    cheers, rachel #67

  9. I totally get the colour sorting thing - a rainbow girl I guess? I have my things in the wardrobe rainbow sorted as well. Just one of my many little quirks. Thanks for the peek at your workdesk, Cindy #17

  10. I'm a colour sorter too Paula [It's my ocd you know :-) ]. Love the card on your desk.

  11. You sure do come up to any standard out there! The saving of kitchen roll innards for something you cant remember about is alarming and're earning a spot on the next 'hoarders; show!! I'm pants with the alcohol pens, just don't have the finesse, but to be honest,I can count on one hand the number of images I've chosen to colour this year, let alone recently!! Great to see you, I know what an effort you have to make. Oh and Annie's giving out wine...just a small one for you my gal, or you'll be sleeping through Christmas!!

  12. Fabulous desk this week. Thanks for sharing. I love the look of your paper pile!
Have yourself a great week. Neil#65

  13. I save a lot of toilet paper rolls and make them into dolls or use them to organize brushes and pens. have not found a use for the longer rolls yet! Patsy from

  14. Great looking desk today Paula. Lots of fun things to look at again. I love that image and I think your card designs are awesome and you are underrating them! Hope you have a great week. Vickie #91

  15. Well, despite the procrastination, Paula, it all looks like a hive of activity to me! I can identify with the procrastination. There's something about a blank sheet of paper - like writers, somehow it instills terror, in case you mess it up lol! Any activity to take one away from it... when you find yourself cleaning the loo instead of being creative, it's time to bring oneself up short and go back and get stuck in lol!!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog, and I'm so glad you like my work! We aim to please... I must say I was in danger of procrastinating when I saw the blank page of my art journal, wondering if my first attempt at painting a tiger would be a total disaster and I'd end up ruining my new art journal when I'd only just started it!!

    Happy WOYWW,
    Shoshi #2

  16. Love the rainbow piles of coloured papers, they just make me want to craft.

  17. A great stock of beautifully colored papers. Great desk and I love the die peeking out there! Have a wonderful week!

  18. What time did you sit up until ...or did you just get up super early??? What busy spaces much going on....I do so know what you mean about sitting at a desk and every thing disappearing from the grey matter. Had to smile over the kitchen roll tubes ...I have been saving tops from milk bottles but I cant remeber why. xx#79

  19. Always comforting to see someone else saves stuff like cardboard tubes for no greater reason than that they might come in useful for something! And I know exactly what you mean about not being able to get going on something you know you have to get done... best thing is to just start something else instead! Don't beat yourself up too much!! x Chloe 85

  20. Thank you so much for all your lovely comments, Paula! You certainly have been busy, trawling through my now quite extensive blog! I am very sorry to hear you lost your Dad, and that you are having issues with your Mum's health - yes, we have a lot in common. It's a very difficult time, and the future is far from certain. Who knows where we'll all be in a couple of years' time? My parents have done very well up till now - Mum is 91 and Dad 89 and they've been living independently, but now all this burden has fallen on my hubby's shoulders.

Sorry also that you suffer with your health too. Normally one can cope OK from day to day as long as there's a not-too-taxing routine, but add extra stress into the equation and it can all go pear-shaped pretty rapidly.

Thank you so much for signing up as a follower! I have been a bit lax about posting recently but hope to remedy that now. I hope I will continue to have stuff that holds your attention lol!!

  21. Very pretty colors in your paper stack! In fact, lots of pretties on your desk. Have patience, the Christmas mojo will come. I think we all put to much pressure on ourselves to make 'fab' cards. :D nan 27

  22. Paula you and I are in the same boat with the Christmas card thing. I am doing the same things. I even went as far as organizing my christmas paper and stamps and then I put them on my desk. Then I push them around but never make any. And before you know it, I will be scrambling. I am definately feeling that perfectionist bug too. Why must we do this to ourselves. Looking around your site I can say that you produce beautiful stuff. So let's take a vow and get started. I will if you will.

  23. Thanks for stopping by Paula. It would be dangerous for me too living too close to MCS headquarters!! Bad enough they are just up the road from my MIL, and then there's MDF man not too far away, and... oh, any number of wonderful crafty outlets around the Derbys/Notts borderlands:) Now as for your Christmas conundrum, I was at a loss this morning for two cards so I grabbed back issues of The Craft Stamper and hey presto, two cards to do in my own style. Would this help you too? Hope so, happy WOYWW, hugs Buttons #6

  24. Hope you weren't climbing onto anything to take those pics?!! Kitchen rolls, you can make albums from them. I saw it on Create & Crafts Sunday scrappers show. You flatten them, cover with paper, punch holes, put rings in, then make tags to go inside so they are like pockets. Same can be done with loo rolls! Great way to recycle. Must have a go! Take care Zo xx 71

  25. I always sort my paper by color LOL the only organizing thing I do continually. I used pencils to color my images then go over the top with the marker in the lightest shade, make a great blender too.
    Happy WOYWW

  26. Wow that was short and sweet, lol! Just dive right in with the Christmas card thing, I think if you throw caution to the wind the mojo will just start to flow. You get a lot of card for the money there! Yep, it was me who had mentioned slow cooker bread last week (see, your memory is good). And I put the socks with the cake in order to only do one photo! At least these ones haven't been worn yet!!

  27. Wow, what a lovely pile of card!!! I daren't think what would happen if I actually lived near a craft shop!!! Love the green 'paper bin', it would look just great next to my work-bed, and I need something better looking than a supermarket carrier bag! Happy WOYWW. Karen T 140 x

  28. Yes, card/paper has to be sorted into colours, just the same as inkpads get sorted and pencils, and pens and................. how else can you find exactly what you want without a major search?!?!?!?
Great looking desk, and thank you so much for allowing me to leave you a comment ;-)
    Happy WOYWW

  29. Lovely, busy, creative desk! Have a great week with all those projects...

  30. I think it's so funny how excited we get to be in the first 100 let alone the first 50! My silver tape is heat duct tape! Embossing folders, alcohol inks and tools work great on it. And it's sticky, not archival tho. Have fun!

  31. Your work area looks like a very creative space. I love your paper..I was making Halloween cards last night with my sister from 10:00 to 12:30 PM. dead tired today. I bet you got a good buy on your paper. Does your paper warehouse sell online. I need to find a better source. Ran out of black cardstock last night :(

  32. I had to stop by with the "OMG- I made it in the top 50!" on the linky. too funny. Thanks for letting me snoop. The pink/green card looks very pretty. LisaDV 164

  33. Oh Paula, I'm such a procrastinator too...can you tell since I'm just getting around to WOYWW comments the Monday AFTER you posted last Wednesday? Haha! At least you have actually sat at your desk and thought about Christmas cards...I haven't even gotten that far yet!! Soon though, soon!
